If you ever find yourself in a Kansas river town
And walk the sandy banks or float your way down
You may wonder of the tales to be told
And if you let me I will share one I hold

The midwestern mystery began with a flood
When the Kansas River rose in summer ‘51
The railway of Santa Fe seemed to know what lay in store
As they lined the bridges with 10 engines or more

Tearing thru the low lands
On the loose for miles & miles
Some say if you listen
You will hear a phantom whistle
Screamin in the night

The mighty muddy water tore the bridges down
The wrath from the heavens sent the engines to the ground
A hundred thousand tons of steel rushin towards the sea
Two trains recovered but ones still running free.

I can hear
That haunting whistle howl
I wanna know
Where did that Santa Fe ghost train go
Lightning & forty feet of endless rain
Conjured up the strength
To bury the ghost train

If you’re searchin there is plenty you will find
The river’s full of treasures washed up over time
The banks are littered with what once was of our use
And deep in the sand is the missing train caboose
